Thanks to its natural, historical and artistic beauties, the young state of Montenegro has asserted itself in a short time as the new luxury destination of Southern Europe.
If in 2013 the authoritative NY Times had already listed it between the European must-see destinations, the reasons are many, its naturalistic charm just to name one:
The inland, rugged and wild, hosts no less than 4 national parks with immense panoramas, evocative mountain lakes, deep canyons and the wonderful Ostrog monastery, nestled among the rocks.
On the other hand, the coast, aside from 300 coastline km of clear crystal waters, beautiful coves and beaches, also boasts the more southern fjord of Europe, the famous Bay of Kotor, Unesco World Heritage.
All this, in addition to its strategic position, has meant that this little gem – still relatively unknown – has become object of important investments in tourism, especially luxury tourism.
While waiting to see the number of building projects under construction, we visited two real pearls, which alone are worth the trip.
Therefore, if during your vacation you don’t want to miss out the most luxurious places in Montenegro, grab pen and paper… we are about to reveal them to you:
Sveti Stefan
- Aman Sveti Stefan Resort
Imagine two golden beaches that join together in a small fortified islet, that once was a fishermen village and now it’s a luxury resort where privacy reigns supreme.
From above, Sveti Stefan appears to you like that, while you are riching it from the panoramic road descending toward the sea.
But the real magic is in the resort structure, made of stone paved alleys that smell of the rich Mediterranean vegetation, little stone houses with red roofs, who preserve charming suites with vaulted ceilings and furniture design, a heavenly spa and panoramic terraces from which to enjoy beautiful views.
A characteristic and so exclusive shelter could only be the favorite destination of celebrities from all over the world, who reach Sveti Stefan for over fifty years to enjoy privacy and relaxation.
Sofia Loren, Orson Welles, Liz Taylor, Nicole Kidman, Kirk Douglas and even Queen Elisabeth II, were among the most illustrious guests of this pearl of Montenegro, surrounded by a marvelous sea.
In 2009 then, the structure was taken over from the luxurious asian chain Aman Resort, and has therefore become Aman Sveti Stefan Resort.
In addition to the islet, where the main structure rises, to Aman Sveti Stefan also belong two exclusive private beaches with very few umbrellas and an accurate service, and Villa Minocer, that hosts 8 exclusive suites and a spa.
One last curiosity: the villa – former summer residence of Queen Kardodevic and later belonged to the general Titus – has been recently the location chosen from the Serbian champion Novak Djokovic for its wedding.
Porto Montenegro
Porto Montenegro, with its super-yachts moored to the docks, its splendid 5 star hotel, trendy clubs and restaurants and exclusive boutiques, has become a tourist harbor leader in the Mediterranean, as well as one of the centers of the luxury mundanity of the adriatic coast.
Porto Montenegro is situated in a unique landscape, just inside the Kotor Bay, the most beautiful mediterranean fjord, with its high mountains to peak on the sea.
You can choose the most exclusive hotel in the area for a luxurious stay, or anyway spend a night for a pleasant walk in this modern seaside village.
- Regent Porto Montenegro Hotel & Residence
Il Regent Porto Montenegro is the flagship of the entire navy.
Inspired by the Venetian Renaissance style, the hotel presents itself with facades yellow ochre, Italian balconies and terracotta rooftops.
The entrance of the hotel immediately shows the expert touch of landscape architects who have designed it: a calm water garden develops in front of the lobby, creating a perfect visual continuity between the hotel and the Marina.
The interiors are inspired by the Austro-hungarian classic style, with details taken from the nautical one: natural fabrics in shades of beige and blue, who donate guests a comfort feeling.
The Regent Porto Montenegro not only offers rooms and suites, but also private residences and luxurious penthouses, in addition to all the advantages that make it a so special hotel:
a refined restaurant with mediterranean cuisine, a bakery, a cozy library bar heated by the fireplace in winter and live music in summer, a spa with indoor and outdoor pool …all you need to feel pampered is there.
- Lido Mar
Just a few steps from the Regent, thereis an exclusive members-only pool club: Lido Mar.
The access to this contemporary design club is reserved to the Regent Hotel’s guests, residents of Porto Montenegro, hosts of the Marina and VIP visiting guests.
It’s impossible not to already notice from the outside the maxi bronze frame – 8 meters high- spectacularly overlooking the pool and emphasizing its perspective towards the sea.
And defining it just a swimming pool is reductive: this is a 64 meters infinity pool, covered with black and white mosaic tiles and surrounded by comfortable lounge chairs and canopies, a cocktail bar, VIP areas and a lounge bar inside.
It is wonderful to wait for the sunset here, looking at the Kotor Bay mountains, accompanied by the dj music selection, between good food and fine drinks until the early hours of the morning.
Among the many exclusive events, the Lido Mar pool club also hosts the opening party of Superyacht Rendezvous, a 3 days event reserved to the owners of the most luxurious yachts in the world.
A unique appointment, which for 25 years was held in the Principality of Monaco and that from 2015 has been moved to the Porto Montenegro Marina, one of the very few marinas in the world that is able to accommodate lboats of great dimensions, with its 400 places for yachts from 12 to 180 meters.
Unlike other prestigious nautical events, Superyacht Rendezvous Montenegro is purely based on favoring social relations between mega yachts owners, with parties, music and rivers of champagne, to finish with an evocative yachts cruise in the Kotor Bay waters.
Admiring these jewels that sail slowly between the fjord’s clear waters is a real wonder.
So we can now consider the Montenegro the new luxury destination and a recognized point of reference for the nautical world and the glamour that surrounds it.
