In order to win the prestigious prize of Best Hotel of the Year, a hotel must have a good structure but also a special soul.
It is thanks to its territory mix, architecture and Apulian hospitality that Borgo Egnazia has succeeded in reaching the prestigious title.
On 10 August 2016, at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas, Virtuoso – the most authoritative international network of luxury travels – celebrated its tenth anniversary and awarded the prizes to the Best of the best over 1,200 hotels and resorts of its exclusive portfolio. Borgo Egnazia has won this important recognition, surpassing even illustrious opponents such as the renewed Ritz in Paris (which we told you about here).
But what makes the experience at Borgo Egnazia so unique?
- Nowhere else
Apulia, in first place.
The plan of the Borgo, wanted by the owner Aldo Melpignano, was designed by a team of Apulian architects, guided by local set designer Pino Brescia.
From people to materials, everything in the hotel is a tribute to Apulia.
The inspiration is that of ancient farms (the masserie) and villages of Apulia, with their little squares and their alleys.
The buildings are made with the local stone, the tufo, hand cut by the tufai masters.
The light tones of stone are brightened by jasmine, prickly pears and citrus trees.
The restaurant offers typical dishes made with the freshest local ingredients.
The entire staff is Apulian.
It’s the Nowhere else concept.
Borgo Egnazia is a beautiful taste in the beauty of Apulia.
- The structure
The complex develops in three main areas: the Court, the Village and the Villas.
The rooms have different characteristics, but they are all impeccable through the attention to details and the relaxed atmosphere created by the neutral tones, the lanterns and the design elements that enrich them.
The stone bathrooms, the balconies overlooking the olive groves or the sea, the private gardens. Nothing is left to chance. Guests are above all looking for comfort and here they will find it in every situation.
And for the more demanding ones, the villas provide a superb stay, each one with its own private swimming pool, the garden, a large patio and a bedroom with a romantic canopy.
The Villas guests can also request exclusive services such as a butler, a private chef or a nanny.
- The Style
A country-chic style, where elements of the past are valued by contemporary touches.
Many star vaults are found in its architectural design. The neutral colors of white and beige invite to enter a relax mood, while the soft lighting of candles and lanterns help creating a dreamlike atmosphere.
The local artisans have specifically realized for the resort a series of charming pieces of furniture and romantic accessories, that are reminiscent of ancient objects, but they prove to be more up to date than ever.
And then there are unexpected touches that evoke a rural atmosphere, such as red chili coming down from ceilings, wheat and walnuts baskets and decorated cages.
The attention to detail is total. The result is exceptional.
- Activities
Guests have at their disposal everything they can wish for:
Three amazing outdoor swimming pools (one of which is heated) and an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts and football pitches, relaxation rooms and lounge areas.
The convenient 18 holes golf course San Domenico, considered one of the best golf clubs in Italy, has a great path along the coast, spectacularly flanked by olive trees.
Two beaches, a rocky one, ideal for water sports, and a sandy one, which is quieter and also suitable for families with children.
An authentic culinary experience, a journey among the Apulia flavors through 4 restaurants, each one with a different soul.
And the cooking school: taralli, frise, orecchiette, …the discovery of regional traditions and at the same time the opportunity to experience the pleasure of conviviality.
In addition, dedicated activities for children and special spaces, like Trullolandia, a playground totally inspired by the region.
- The Spa
Vair, which in the local dialect means “true”, is the Borgo Egnazia spa, winner of the Tatler prize as Best Spa 2013.
1,800 sqm of space that remember the ancient Roman baths, for a totally Made in Italy well-being.
The cosmetics are based on natural elements such as oil, salt and almonds. Nature is loved and respected and it’s believed that its products are effective for the body care and the exaltation of beauty.
The Vair team is made of special people. They are “therapists artists“, meaning they have a talent in treating body and soul, in an important and delicate path, that is a something like the realization of an art work.
- The scenery
The resort is part of an over 16 hectares estate, which develops between the ancient Roman city of Egnazia and the sea, with its fishermen village.
All around, a large expanse of majestic olive trees.
Its location in the heart of Apulia, also makes it a perfect base for discovering the beauties of the region, such as the nearby villages of Cisternino, Locorotondo, Ostuni and Alberobello.
Sophistication and elegance, a magical atmosphere of quietness, the love for tradition, the Apulian hospitality, make Borgo Egnazia an exclusive Mediterranean destination.
